Brand new classes are being added in all venues!! I am so thrilled to announce the addition of progressive ballet technique to the timetable. Progressive ballet technique (PBT) is an innovative and exciting programme of exercises specifically designed to safely strengthen various muscle groups most often used in ballet without any risk of injury. We are among one of the first schools in Ireland to offer this unique programme and I cannot recommend this programme highly enough as a valuable addition to regular classes. PBT training is suitable for those students aged 10 years plus who want to improve their technique and want to see real, definitive progress that they can further work on at home.

A photoshoot will be taking place over the next few months with renowned photographer Clara Hooper (see www.clarahooper.com). The photoshoot will be open to all students to avail of and will be priced at a reduced rate. The students had a wonderful day at the last photoshoot and created not only some beautiful photos to take home but some fantastic memories and experiences. More details will follow shortly. In house exams will be taking place at the end of May are available for Grade 2 students and up. Information will be distributed at class over the next few weeks to eligible students.

New Classes

We are very pleased to announce two additional classes to the existing timetable; First up, a flexibility class taking place on Tuesdays 630-710 in the Shankill branch. Suitable for students aged 10 years and up, this class will provide a framework for front and box splits as well as back flexibility in a safe, supervised manner. Places limited so contact Catherine ASAP to book in. Secondly, considering the high demand for preschool places in Castleknock, a second mini-movers class has been added on Saturdays 1.15-2.00 pm starting on the 4th of March. The staff and students at the school would like to congratulate one of our senior students, Rachel Moore, on her recent acceptance to the prestigious Northern Ballet School into their dance degree programme. Rachel’s dedication and hard work has been an inspiration to the other students and we couldn’t be prouder of her. We wish her every success in her continued training and the very best in her professional career.

In a similar vein, 5 of our intermediate students recently auditioned for the New York based Joffrey School of Ballet summer intensive courses. The auditions covered a wide range of styles and we had students entered in Musical theatre, classical ballet and jazz/contemporary. All 5 students were successful in their auditions and have been offered places in the New York and Los Angeles courses. Huge congratulations to Ella Jones, Eva Spring, Sophie Doyle Smyth, Katie May and Rebecca Lennon.

Music in the Classroom

Congratulations are also due to our Music in the Classroom team who performed in the National Concert Hall in October. The series was a huge success with eight performances across four days delighting over 6000 audience members. A great reward for all the hard work and rehearsals that went into every performance. This year the school took part in a very exciting venture which took place over the Easter holidays-the first ever filming of the Catherine Casey School of Dance short movie! All students little and big, from all 3 branches were invited to attend this unique event which took place in the Castleknock venue.

The filming was performed by Ms. Sarah Douglas (a senior student attending Film and Broadcasting in DIT). This short film is available for all to watch on the school’s website and will be a wonderful introduction to next year’s Dance Showcase.

Adding to the excitement on the day, a photo shoot also took place with the wonderful professional photographer, Ms. Clara Hooper from clarahooper.com. The children all had a fabulous time practising their poses with some very lucky teddy bears getting their pictures taken too!

The feedback from the photo shoot has been overwhelmingly positive from both parents and students alike and promises to be something we can look forward to again in the future.

Showcase 2014

Congratulations to all who took part in the sell out performances of Showcase 2014 at The Venue and at the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire. The show was an eclectic mix of ballet, jazz and modern dance pieces, with influences being drawn from ballet favourites, and modern hits.

As always, all profits went to Crumlin Children’s Hospital with €3510 being raised. The next Showcase will take place in May 2016 and plans are already being hatched as it will be the school’s 10th anniversary and promises to be our biggest show yet.

A Television Debut!

Two of our Grade 5 students helped us make our television debut on RTE Junior’s “The Beo show”. Both Anna and Katie did us very proud performing a classical ballet piece as well as a more contemporary number, and both had a great time on set.

The Beo Show is a show where children team up with performers to discover new things about music, song, drama, acting, comedy, circus theater and much more. It includes live performances from children taking part in the show in their chosen field.
